    Travel with us to Austria for a fantastic hiking tour through lush valleys, snow-capped mountains, and quaint medieval towns. We’ll enjoy 7 nights in the ski resort town of Kitzbühel, the perfect base from which to enjoy this walker’s paradise. Throughout our 5 days of guided walking, we’ll take in wide alpine pastures, rolling grass hills, glacial lakes and impressive waterfalls. Highlights of our walks will include the towering Kitzbüheler Horn, the famous Streif downhill ski slope, the gentle hills of the Bichlachs, the crystal clear Schwarzsee Lake, and the stunning Krimml Waterfalls. We’ll also enjoy a day of free time for further independent exploration or to relax in the beautiful mountain air. With all this to see, this holiday to the Tyrolean Alps in Austria is sure to leave you with memories to last a lifetime.

    This trip will include a choice of moderate or challenging routes on each walking day and is ideal for moderately experienced or experienced walkers. The average daily walking distance on moderate walks is between 6km – 10.2km and the average daily walking distance on challenging walks is between 14km – 18km.

    Arrive in Munich & transfer to Austria

    Begin your adventure with a flight to Munich. On arrival in Munich airport, our local representative will meet you and transfer you across the German Austrian border to your hotel in Kitzbuhel, a small Alpine town located in the western Austrian province of Tyrol. You will have some free time to get to know your surroundings before an orientation meeting with your tour leader and expert walking mountain guide. There will be two walking routes, moderate and challenging, on offer on all walking days throughout this holiday. During the orientation meeting your local expert mountain guide will explain what can be expected in terms of distance, terrain and physical fitness needed for both the moderate and challenging walks.

    The Bichlachs

    Today’s walk will bring you through the rolling hills of the Bichlachs to Hasenberger, Vogelsberger and Gieringer where your starting point will be the beautiful Schwarzsee Lake. The Bichlach isn’t comparable with anything else in Tyrol. This soft hill region, lies between sharp mountains such as the Wilder Kaiser or the Kitzbuheler Horn. Often referred to as the ‘front yard’ of Kitzbuhel, the Bichlachs is full of hiking routes, with many pathways of various heights. A packed lunch will be included.

    Challenging route - Distance: 17 km / Duration: 6 hours / Incline: 420 m / Decline: 420 m

    The Streif

    Today you will hike along one of the most spectacular downhill ski race tracks in the world, the Streif, on a mixture of smooth path and, at times, rocky steep terrain. Enjoy the fresh mountain air, the colourful flowers on the wide alpine pastures and the soft grass mountains. A packed lunch will be included.

    Challenging route - Distance: 16 km / Duration: 6 hours / Incline: 886 m / Decline: 957 m

    Kitzbuheler Horn

    Full day walking tour

    Depart your hotel for a full day scenic walking tour of the Kitzbuheler horn in the Kitzbuheler Alps. Today’s walk will bring you to a view point to the snow-capped peaks of the Alps on a combination of forest terrain and some wooden paths. The grass-covered mountains, flower meadows and Alpine pastures offer a stunning setting for today’s adventure. Well maintained paths lead up to Kitzbuheler Horn, offering captivating views of the whole area below. A packed lunch will be included.

    Moderate route - Distance: 10.2 km / Duration: 4.5 hours / Incline: 706 m / Decline: 706 m

    Challenging route - Distance: 18km / Duration: 6.5 hours / Incline: 1126 m / Decline: 1222 m

    Krimml Waterfalls

    Full day walking tour

    Time: Full DayFull Day

    Today you will head to the Krimml Waterfall along trails that have been used for centuries. Standing at 340m, this is the highest Austrian waterfall. There are 23 glaciers in the area. The walk will be a combination of forest trails and small roads and will give intermittent views of the spectacular falls. A packed lunch will be included.

    Moderate route - Distance: 6 km / Duration: 1.5 hours / Incline: 380 m / Decline: 380 m

    Challenging route - Distance: 14 km / Duration: 4.5 hours / Incline: 500 m / Decline: 17 m

    Rehbachklamm or Sonnseitweg

    Rehbachklamm – Moderate route

    Time: Full DayFull Day

    Today the moderate route will begin with a hike starting from the centre of Scheffau, a village set at the south-west foothills of the Kaiser mountain range. You will hike along a path at the edge of the forest taking in Hinterschießlingalm, the authentic alpine pasture of Kaiseralm and Seilabodenkreuz. From the panoramic road you will have a view of the Wilder Kaiser, a chain of mountains, formed predominantly of bare limestone rock. From here the hike will begin to go downhill back towards the pasture of the Kaiseralm before continuing to the alpine hut of Wegscheid Niederalm and arriving back at the starting point of Scheffau.

    Moderate route - Distance: 10 km / Duration: 3.5 hours / Incline: 500 m / Decline: 500 m

    Sonnseitweg – Challenging route

    Time: Full DayFull Day

    Today the challenging route will start from Ellmau, a village in the alpine countryside that is famed for its proximity to the Wilder Kaiser Mountains. Begin by crossing a 27-hole golf field, before continuing through a beautiful fir forest to the well-known Wochenbrunner Alm mountain hut. From here you will follow a trail that leads in to the forest towards Riedlhütte, passing the mystic stone circle which is known for its energetic powers en route. The uphill hike continues and leads to farmlands before heading downhill back towards the starting point of Ellmau

    Challenging route - Distance: 14 km / Duration: 5 hours / Incline: 543 m / Decline: 543 m

    You will have one final morning at leisure in the charming Alpine town of Kitzbuhel to spend as you wish. This is the perfect time to do any last minute sightseeing or shopping. The choice is all yours.

    In the afternoon it will be time to say goodbye to your stunning alpine surroundings as you transfer by coach back over the border to Munich Airport for your return flight home.
