This region, known as Salzkammergut, is a walker's dream destination, with lush green valleys, sparkling blue lakes and dramatic mountain views. Famous for being the setting for the film The Sound of Music, you’ll recognise this area’s beauty as we get up close and personal with its incredible landscape. From hiking through valleys, gazing up at towering mountains, or strolling through the quaint town of Bad Ischl, this holiday will leave you with memories to last a lifetime. Take in the fresh mountain air on day-long guided walks around Lakes Wolfgangsee, Fuschlsee, Aussee and Gosausee.
This guided trip is ideal for moderately experienced walkers, with the average daily walking distance being between 8-15km.

Travel to Austria
Fly to Munich & transfer to Bad Ischl
Depart for your flight to Munich. Upon arrival, you will be met by our local representative and transferred across the border to Austria towards your hotel in Bad Ischl.

Bad Ischl is a spa town, which is known as a gateway to the Alpine lakes and mountains of the Salzkammergut region. It is brimming with quaint streets, stunning villas and picturesque buildings for you to explore. You will have the remainder of the day at leisure to settle in to your new surroundings.

Today we drive across a mountain pass over to the Styrian Part of the Lake District.
The quaint little towns Bad Ausee and Altaussee are the geographical centre of Austria and surrounded by a fantastic landscape.
Walking along Lake Aussee, a dark blue crystal clear mountain lake, we can admire the rocky peaks of Totes Gebirge (dead mountains).
On a historical Salt-trail we walk up to the pastures and enjoy alpine snacks at the huts.
Cultural tradition, alpinism and the history of the mountain salt have always been important for the Ausseer Land.

Munich & return home

Say goodbye to Austria as you depart your hotel and head towards Munich Airport. En route, you will enjoy a half day guided city tour of Munich with your local guide. Munich, Bavaria’s capital, is home to centuries-old buildings and numerous museums. The city is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration and its beer halls, including the famed Hofbräuhaus, founded in 1589.

You will return home in the evening following your memorable week walking around some of Austria's most stunning scenery.
