Umbria Walking Holiday

Arrive in Umbria and settle into your hotel near Lake Trasimeno. Depending on your arrival time, you may take a short walk around the lakeside or simply relax after the journey. The evening is a chance to get comfortable in your surroundings before the walking begins.

The day begins in Bevagna, a town with Roman streets, small squares, and workshops that give a sense of its long history. You’ll have time to explore before starting the walk.
The route leads out of the town along easy tracks through olive groves and vineyards. As you gain height, wider views of the valley appear. The final stretch climbs steadily into Montefalco, a compact hilltop town known for its wine and open terraces.
On arrival, you can wander the narrow streets, visit the main square, or enjoy this beautiful town known as the balcony of Umbria, and of course, the chance to buy and taste its famous wines.

Today’s walk follows the old Via dei Condotti, a route that winds through woodland on the slopes of Monteluco. The path offers regular views of Spoleto and its rooftops below, with quiet stretches of forest along the way.
After returning to town, the rest of the day is yours to explore. Many people choose to visit the cathedral, the Roman amphitheatre, or the medieval fortress. A short walk leads to the Bridge of Towers, an impressive structure that links the town to the hillside opposite.

The day begins in Spello, a town known for its stone houses, flower-lined streets, and Roman walls. After a brief look around, you’ll walk through the Porta Montanara and climb gradually into the olive groves above the town. From here, there are clear views towards Monte Subasio and across the valleys below.
The route continues along the line of the old aqueduct that once supplied water to Spello. This section is peaceful and open, passing terraces, fields, and occasional farm buildings. You’ll reach Collepino, a small, quiet village, before descending via a section of the Olive Trail back to Spello.

1. Short Lakeside Walks Around Passignano

There are several low-level paths along Lake Trasimeno that offer gentle walking with places to stop for coffee or lunch.

2. Take a Ferry to Isola Maggiore

Those who want more time on the island can return by ferry, explore the small village, or follow one of the short signed walking loops.

3. Local Food and Wine Tasting

The area around Lake Trasimeno has small wine producers and food shops offering tastings. The guide can suggest a couple of reliable options nearby.

4. Relax at the Hotel

Guests may prefer a slower day—reading, resting, or enjoying the hotel’s surroundings.

5. Optional Extra Walk (Unguided)

Your guide can recommend a short, well-marked route suitable for independent walking, depending on the weather and interests.

Begin with a circular walk directly from the hotel, following paths that pass through open countryside and shaded stretches around Passignano. Along the way, you’ll gain a better sense of the lake’s size and the rural life surrounding it.

Later, visit a local farm where you’ll learn about regional produce, including traditional beans and Cinta Senese pigs. A simple lunch with tastings is included.
In the afternoon, a short boat ride takes you to Isola Maggiore. The island has a small medieval centre and walking paths that allow time to explore before returning to the mainland.
